At its 1234th meeting, on 3 August 1965, the Council decided to invite the representatives of Cyprus, Turkey and Greece to participate, without vote, in the discussion of the item entitled " Letter dated 26 December 1963 from the Permanent Representative of Cyprus addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/5488): 8 (a) Letter dated 30 July 1965 from the Permanent Representative of Turkey addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/6571); 9 (b) Letter dated 31 July 1965 from the Permanent Representative of Cyprus addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/6581) ".9

cussion de la question intitulee « Lettre, en date du 26 decembre 1963, adressee au President du Conseil de securite par le representant permanent de Chypre (S/5488 8): a) Lettre, en date du 30 juillet 1965, adress6e au President du Conseil de securite par le representant permanent de la Turquie (S/6571 9); b) Lettre, en date

securite par le representant permanent de Chypre (S/6581 9) ».

At its 1235th meeting, on 5 August 1965, the Council decided, under rule 39 of the provisional rules of procedure, to invite Mr. Rauf Denktas to make a statement before it.

The Security Council,
Noting the report of the Secretary-General of 29 July 1965,10 stating that recent developments in Cyprus have increased tension in the island,
Noting the further reports of the Secretary-General of 2 August,n 5 August 12 and 10 August 1965,13
Having heard the statements of the parties concerned, l. Reaffirms its resolution 186 (1964) of 4 March 1964;
2. Calls upon all parties, in conformity with the above resolution, to avoid any action which is likely to worsen the situation.
Adopted unanimously at the 1236th meeting.
