Decisions

On 10 Januarv 1975, the President of the Securilv Council issued a' note" in which he recalled that th~ Secretarv-General had informed the Council in November 197~ of the intention of the Government of Peru to withdraw its contingL'nt from the United Nations Disengagcment Observer -Force ( L:--;DOF) in the first half
of ll)75. The President added that on 18 December 1974, the Secrctary-Gcncral had asked him to bring to the attcntiun of the members of the Council the Secretary-General\ intcnti'm at the request of the Government pf 1\.:ru to rckase BrigaJi,~r-Gcneral Gonzalo Bricct1o Zevallos from his assig~1ment as Interim Commander of C:"-~DOF as of 15 D~cember 1974. The President st:.~ted tlwt in a kttcr dated 8 January 1975 he had informed the Secrdary-General as follows:

"After consultations with the mL'mbers of the Council, I am able to inform you that the Council took note of the intention of the Government of Peru and expressed its gratitude to the Government of P.::ru for the manner in which the Peruvian contingent carried out the important dutics assigned to it.

''The members of thc Council await communication from you concerning which country of Latin America would be able to provide a contingent for U:'-JDOF to replace the Peruvian contingent in order to continue their consultations on this matter.

"The Chinese delegation dissociates itself from this matter..,

The President stated further that in a second letter
dated 8 J :.muary he held informed the Seer..:tary-General as folL.)\.VS:

"After consuitations with the members of the Council, I am able to inform you that the C0uncil
has taken note of your agreement to release General Bricciio and h~1s no objection to h:lVing Colonel Hannes Philipp, Chief of Staff of C~DOF, carry out Generc:l Briccfto's functions on a temporary basis.

'·The Council is awaiting your propos<Jl concerning a su:cessor to General Briccno in order that the question of the appointment of a Cummander of UNDOF may be settled.

At its 1821 st meeting, on 17 April 1975, the Council decided to invite the representatives of Egypt and Israel to participate, without vote, in the discussion of the item entitled "The situation in the Middle East: report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Emergency Force (S/11670 and Corr.l and 2)". 10

The Security Council, Recalling its resolutions 338 ( 1973) of 22 October, 340 ( 1973) of 25 October and 341 ( 1973) of 27 October 1973, 346 ( 1974) of 8 April and 362 (1974) of 23 October 1974, Having considered the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Emerg,·ncy Force (SI 11670 and Corr.l and 2), rlaving noted the developm:nts in the situation in the .\1idd!c East, Expressing concern over the prevailing state of tension in the area, Decides: ( u) To call upon the parties conccrned to implement immediately Security Council resolution 338 ( 1973); (b) To renew the mandate of the United Nations Emergency Force for a period of three months, that is, until 24 July 1975; (c) To request the Secretary-General to submit at the end of this period a report on the developments in the situation and the measure-> taken to implement resolution 338 ( 1973).

The Security Council, Having considered the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force,1 ~ Having noted the efforts made to establish a lasting and just peace in the Middle East area and the developments in the situation in the area, Expressing concern over the prevailing state of tension in the area, Reaffirming that the two agreements on disengagement of forces are only a step towards the implementation of Security Council resolution 338 (1973) of 22 October 1973, Decides: (a) To call upon the parties concerned to implement immediately Security Council resolution 338 ( 1973); (b) To renew the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another period of six months;
