At the same meeting, the Council also decided to extend an invitation, under rule 39 of the provisional rules of procedure, to the Chairman of the Special Committee against Apartheid.
On 4 October 1982, following consultations with the members of the Council, the President issued the following statement65 on behalf of the members of the Council:
''The members of the Security Council have entrusted me to express, on their behalf, their grave concern at the death sentences passed on 6 August 1982 in South Africa on Mr. Thelle Simon Mogoerane, Mr. Jerry Semano Mosololi and Mr. Marcus Thabo Motaung, three members of the African National Congress of South Africa.
"The members of the Security Council strongly urge the Government of South Africa, in order to avoid further aggravating the situation in South Africa, to commute the death sentences. ' '
At its 2404th meeting, on 7 December 1982, the Council proceeded with the discussion of the item entitled "The question of South Africa''.

Recalling its statement of 4 October 198265 regarding the death sentences passed on 6 August 1982 in South Africa on Mr. Thelle Simon Mogoerane, Mr. Jerry Semano Mosololi and Mr. Marcus Thabo Motaung, members of the African National Congress ofSouth Africa, and reiterat ing its urgent appeal for executive clemency in this case.
Gravely concerned at the confirmation by the Appellatr Division of the Supreme Court of South Africa on '26 November 1982 of the death sentences imposed on Mr Anthony Tsotsobe, Mr. Johannes Shabangu and Mr. DaVIll Moise,
Conscious that the carrying out of the death sentence~ will further aggravate the situation in South Africa,
I. Calls upon the South African authorities to commute the death sentences imposed on the six men;
2. Urges all States and organizations to use their inftu ence and to take urgent measures, in conformity with the Charter of the United Nations, the resolutions of the SecuritY Council and relevant international instruments, to save the lives of the six men.

Bearing in mind the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly on co-operation between the United Nations and the Organization of African Unity,
I. Takes note of the decision of the Organization ,,f
African Unity to establish, in agreement with the Govern ment of the Republic of Chad, a peace-keeping force fPt the maintenance of peace and security in Chad;
2. Requests the Secretary-General to establish a fun,J for assistance to the peace-keeping force of the Organizatinn of African Unity in Chad, to be supplied by voluntan contributions;
3. Requests the Secretary-General to take the necessm·.' measures to ensure the management of the fund in liaiscm with the Organization of African Unity.
